darby huckle

as many of you know, i have found a 'new love' - for wrestling. some people don't see it in me, and i don't know what they are talking about because i see it in myself. there is this little spark that maybe people don't know about. soccer is also very important to me, and if you have ever watched me play a soccer game then you know i am a totally different person. there is the nice amy bennett and then the mean and visious amy bennett that has no mercy or love for another team or another player for the matter.

anyways, back to the wrestling. this year is my first year, actually taking it seriously. wrestling inspires me. the determination, passion, commitment and hard work put into the sport is amazing. i have learned along  the way that when i desided to 'be a wrestler' and 'be apart of the team', there would have to be sacrifices and a lot of commitment.
one wrestler named darby huckle inspires me a lot. she is an amazing, top notch athlete. in it to win it. 100% in to wrestling...no ifs ands or buts. she has won 4 national championships and has been asked to compete in the olympics. i repeat the olympics. 19 years old. grade 13. from the little town: sarnia. and a full scholarship out west. it is amazing. it is inspiring knowing how much hard work she has put into the sport she loves and wants to excel in.
i have seen her wrestle..i have wrestled her...very good...very very good. (and yes, i lost :) ). while warming up before a match she has a 'face' worth a million words. she is getting herself ready to fight. full concentration. getting angry and preparing herself to win. to do what she needs to do to win. look at the face yourself...

mean? visious? inspiring? to me yes. a girl who is fully commited. a girl who works out a lot (as you can see by her muscles in picture #2). today she wore a tighter pair of sweatpants with a fit work out sweater and it made her look jacked.  i love it. i love her hard work method.

one time at the end of wrestling practice my coach asked if anyone wanted to stay for 'open mat time', so i said what the heck i had nothing going on and stayed. that time darby was in the middle and there were six people that kept on swiching in and wrestling her for about 30seconds to a minute. this went on for 12 minutes stright. if anyone has ever seen someone wrestle before then you know it is tiring. i am tired after the 4-6 minutes that i wrestle. she was wrestling for 12, against someone new all the time who was fully prepped and ready to fight. someone also who had a break and is no longer tired. there were some swear words, some grunts, some tears, a lot of sweat, and some loud 'CLARKY's ... we felt bad having to run onto the mat when the whistle blew and look at someone with a red face, tired, and helpless, but we had to wrestle her. someone who was going to go to the olympics needed this training. in the end she did it. she was a warrior and fought through until the end.

she is going to go far. she is going to do things to be remeberd. she has already inspired this little beginner wrestler....and there is a lot more to be done. she is an amazing girl.
