she recently won a gold medal along with her team mate Kaillie Humphries. That was the first ever gold medel for Canada in womans bobsled. And since 2004 she has represented Canada as a member of the National Senior Women’s Rugby. pretty amzing i say.
reading about her, i came across some biography and thought i would share one of the paragraphs with you:
Not only does Heather believe that sport is an amazing means to discover one’s potential in the face of challenges, but that it is also an ideal medium for development at the individual, community, and national levels. In 2001, Heather was selected to serve as a Disability Sports Program Officer with Commonwealth Games Canada in Trinidad and Tobago. She developed and established a camp for children who are deaf or hearing-impaired from islands across the Caribbean called Camp ABLE (Active Bodies, Leadership, and Esteem). Heather remained in Trinidad and Tobago for almost three years doing other work with the Paralympic Association, Disabled People’s International, and the Trinidad and Tobago Rugby Union. Since returning to Canada to do her Masters in Occupational Therapy, she has continued to serve as a Member-at-Large for Commonwealth Games Canada with an avid interest in international development through sport.
I think it's inspiring that an athlete like her is taking this opportunity like this. these are the kind of people that i look up to. they aren't just athletes and gold medalists - they are so much more. they have the ability and opportunitys to help. to make a difference. to inspire. sure this girl is a gold medalist and a national athlete (and pretty) - that inspires me that hard work pays off and that i can do anyting. heather is working hard all year long, two tough sports that she put her mind to. but she also inspires me because of her attitude and her love and perspective on sports.
whatever sport i choose to continue with my life and excel in, to put my mind to 110% - i want an attitude like heather moyse. i want what she has, and hey it's not hard to get.
